H.V. Morton on The Ladies of Llangollen

In honor of the last day of 2011 — and looking forward to 2012! — I post this little piece written by H.V. Morton: he of the “In Search of ” fame.

I just loved Morton’s early books, like In Search of England — it really brought back a quieter, slower-paced era of travel and self-inquiry. So I was delighted when I found that he’d gone in search of the Ladies!

His essay is less “historical” than the few I’ve so far posted here, but just goes to show what has come down in history about them.

To those “fans” of The Ladies, I wish you all HAPPY NEW YEAR!

One of the great joys of living in North Wales is that we are surrounded by some of the best roads on earth.
